Porcelain Veneers Or Composite Veneers

Porcelain is made in a laboratory and bonded at a second appointment. It resists staining better than composite and holds its appearance longer, and it is the stronger choice where several teeth are being treated together. It requires a small amount of enamel to be prepared, so it is not reversible.
Composite is applied and shaped directly onto the tooth in a single visit. It costs less, it can usually be adjusted or removed later because the tooth underneath is largely untouched, and it picks up staining more readily so it will need refreshing sooner.

Built up and sculpted by hand in a single appointment, with no laboratory stage. A lower cost option that keeps more of your own tooth intact and can usually be adjusted or removed later.
How long will veneers last?
Depending on how well you take care of your veneers and the quality of the materials used, porcelain veneers typically last 10 to 15 years before they need replacing, and composite veneers 5 to 7 years before they need refreshing. Those are typical ranges rather than guarantees, and the biggest variables are how you look after them and whether you grind your teeth.
Brush twice daily with a non-abrasive fluoride toothpaste, floss carefully around the margins, and keep up regular hygienist appointments. If you grind at night we will fit a guard, which protects the veneers and your natural teeth alike.
In what ways can veneers best be maintained?
Use a non-abrasive toothpaste and brush and floss your teeth as you usually would. It is recommended that you brush your teeth after consuming any kind of red wine, coffee, tea, or carbonated beverage.
If I get veneers, will it hurt?
That’s not the case at all. Composite veneers are completed in one appointment and usually need no anaesthetic, because the tooth is added to rather than cut into. Porcelain veneers take two appointments and anaesthetic is normally used when the tooth is prepared. Most patients describe the appointments as long rather than uncomfortable.
